Chess Traps | Englund Gambit Trap

The Englund Gambit is an unusual Queen’s Pawn Opening, which begins with the moves 1. d4 e5.

This trap has several neat tactical ideas and ends in Black checkmating White despite not that many pieces being exchanged.

The Swedish player Fritz Carl Anton Englund (1871–1933) sponsored a thematic tournament in which all games had to begin with the position after 4.Qd5; the 1.d4 e5 gambit complex was later named after him.
